Junior League of Manatee County Raises $30,000 for Community Projects Benefiting Children

BRADENTON, FL (March 6, 2013) – Hundreds of young girls and their families descended upon downtown Bradenton this past weekend to take part in the Junior League of Manatee County’s (JLMC) 5th Annual American Girl Fashion Show® fundraiser, which raised more than $30,000 for JLMC’s community projects, each to benefit children in need throughout Manatee County.

A fun and educational fashion show for girls ages six and up, 102 local girls volunteered in the fashion show by wearing historically-accurate outfits from various time periods. Providing an interactive presentation of historical and contemporary fashions, the purpose of the show was to demonstrate how clothing has changed over the years, reflecting history, culture and girls’ individual styles.

JLMC President Lisa Sampson said, “This year’s event was amazing! I am so proud to congratulate our chair, Jenny Gunter, and her entire committee of volunteer JLMC members who worked throughout the year in coordinating the show to ensure its success. Jenny fostered an energy that attracted even more volunteers from the community and everyone truly enjoyed the day.  Our local League loves giving back and it really showed.”

In addition to the 102 volunteer fashion show models, the League enlisted the help of 46 high-school teens that volunteered in various roles across all showtimes, such as fashion show commentators, operate the doll salon, and serve light refreshments to over 700 guests. Local celebrities, Lauren Dorsett of WWSB ABC7, Desoto Queen Lauren Routh, and Summer Smith of Bay News 9, served as volunteer show hosts during one of three shows.

Since 1992, American Girl Fashion Show fundraising events have taken place across the country and have raised $28 million for worthwhile causes nationwide.
